Our Story
In the bustling heart of Mumbai, where tradition and modernity converge, stands Astra (अस्त्र) Sage Private Limited – a pioneering force in environmental sustainability and innovative Used Cooking Oil (UCO) management. Inspired by the ancient Sage Dadhichi, who made the ultimate sacrifice for the greater good, Astra Sage is dedicated to combating climate change and pollution through groundbreaking UCO management approaches.
The name Astra Sage itself is a homage to our deep-rooted heritage, with "Astra" (अस्त्र) symbolizing the 'weapon' in the battle against environmental degradation. Our mission is to transform UCO, traditionally viewed as waste, into a valuable resource that propels us towards a sustainable future. Recognizing the immense potential of UCO for energy and environmental health, we aim to harness it for the greater good.
At the helm of Astra Sage is our leadership, which brings over two decades of experience in project and program management within the international oil and gas industry. This extensive expertise, honed through years in Singapore and the Philippines, deepens our understanding of the environmental and economic impacts of fossil fuel dependency and the quality requirements of UCO.
Our journey led us to the HEFA (Hydro-processed Esters and Fatty Acids), also known as HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) – a renewable diesel fuel produced from various vegetable oils and fats. This biofuel represents a critical step toward a greener planet, being 75 percent less carbon-intensive than traditional diesel.
This revelation comes against the backdrop of India's alarming dependency on imported crude oil, which peaked at 87.5% in FY24. This stark figure strains our national economy and exacerbates the global climate crisis, making the need for sustainable alternatives like UCO-based biofuels even more pressing.
Astra Sage was founded to bridge the gap between UCO suppliers and biofuel manufacturers. By doing so, we aim to foster a robust ecosystem where waste is turned into worth, contributing to a greener and more resilient India.
